"The Roof" was written by Jay Chou when he was 15 years old. When he was in the second grade of junior high school, his parents divorced due to disagreements, and Jay Chou was raised by his mother Ye Huimei. He often sits alone outside the window at night, looking at the sky of the city, and often at his roof. Maybe he was a little lonely since he was young and wanted someone to accompany him. He wrote this feeling into his song. The original draft of the song was called "Can't Sleep in the Middle of the Night", and later he changed it to "The Roof" when he submitted the song.
